The Marston Foundation works to make this website usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, use magnification, or rely on captions. If something on this site gets in your way, we want to hear about it and we will fix it.

The standard we work to

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the benchmark referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act guidance for web content, and it is the target we test against.

What we have done

• Every page has a single, descriptive top-level heading, and heading levels run in order.
• Navigation is present in the page itself rather than assembled by scripts, so it works without JavaScript.
• The mobile menu can be opened and closed from the keyboard, announces whether it is open, and returns focus to the button when it closes. Its links stay out of the tab order while it is hidden.
• The Programs menu opens on keyboard focus, not only on hover, and every item in it is reachable with Tab.
• Text and interface colors meet the AA contrast minimum against their backgrounds.
• Images that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Tap targets in the site footer were enlarged for touch use.

Known limitations

We publish these rather than wait until they are fixed:

• Photographs in the project galleries open in a lightbox that responds to a mouse click but not yet to the keyboard. The same images remain visible on the page itself.
• Some links that sit inside a sentence are smaller than the recommended touch target. Standalone buttons and navigation links are not affected.
• Slide indicators on the project carousels are small. The previous and next controls do the same job and are larger.

How we test

We check every page at phone and desktop widths in a real browser, covering headings, alternative text, contrast ratios, keyboard operation, accessible names, and horizontal overflow. Automated testing does not catch everything, which is why the contact below matters.
